• About three years ago I joined a rescue group. What started out as holding a leash for a couple of hours on Sundays turned into a whole new way of life for my family.

There have been many changes in my life over the past year, all of them for the better. One thing I did lose, though, was my rescue group.

I thought I had found a new rescue where I felt like I belonged. Unfortunately they didn't turn out to be what I thought they were. I'm walking away from dog rescue. I just can't do it any more. I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle and it hurts.

I've just started volunteering with rabbits. I can't walk away from animals all together, I feel like I have to do something. This way I can give myself a much needed break from the politics of rescue but still make a difference.

At first this blog was strictly about rescue. Then it became about my personal life. Now, finally, it's a little bit of both.

    The Bunny Boys’ New House!

Friday night I stayed up until 1:30 a.m. buiding a NIC cage that was three grids high and three grids long. It had three floors. I was a little concerned that they would fall from the top level and break their necks.

On Saturday I paid attention to the cages at the rabbit rescue. I came home and tore down the cage I made. I tore my hands all to hell with the zip ties.

On Sunday I ran around looking for the stuff to brace the cage like I saw at the rescue. I returned the wrong stuff, then came home to build again. After three hours I finished but I still needed rugs to put over the grid shelves. I went back out to Big Lots, found what I needed, and came back home.

The very bottom floor came from Costco and it’s a very sturdy carpet material over rubber. I love the little boogers but I’m not scratching up my floors just for their cage.

Here’s a full view of the cage.

Here is the right side with the first and second levels. They run around on the first level and relax on the second.

They like it so much that when I brought them out to play the ran right back in!

Silly Bunny Boys…chillin on the second floor with a view of the pooper scooper leaning against the window…lol!
