Air conditioner is still broken. I had a guy come out to look at it on Thursday ($95 diagnostic + $10 fuel fee…bastards) and he declared my unit to be next to dead…but not quite. I told him I know it needs to be replaced but that I need it to limp along for just a little while so my house warrantee would replace it.
He didn’t argue with me. He didn’t even look at me like I was nuts. He was a very nice man and he called his office to find out if replacement parts could be found. My AC unit? Is between 30 and 35 years old. The original that came with the house.
To fix it is going to cost me $709 (this does not include the $105 I dropped just to have the guy look at it). To have it replaced will cost about $8000. So yeah. I’m going to deal with an inferior cooling system because, frankly, inferior is better than none…and none is what we have right now.
We’re surviving with the heat. It was right around 100 degrees yesterday and today. Luckily the downstairs stays bearable with fans during the day and at night cool air comes in when we put fans in the windows of the bedrooms.
Hopefully my repair will be scheduled within the next couple of days.
Everything else is going pretty well. If I can find a ladder so I can put a bunch of boxes in the attic I’ll be able to move right along with the settling in. The whole place needs to be pained but that’s not a project that will be happening soon. I’ve decided to go ahead and hang my stuff up on the walls. Taking it all back down later will be much easier than finding a place to store it now.
I really like my house. And I like that I can say it’s mine and mean it.

It’s been right around 100 here too, and I can’t imagine it w/out air conditioning. Hopefully, they’ll get that fixed soon. It’s too bad you don’t live around here. We got a new unit for $4000 from some old guy that does it on the side…awesome deal.

Whaty’s the deal with the house warranty?

Kristie Said:7:48 am
The warranty will only cover items that were in working order when the house was purchased. I’m paying to fix the AC this time and the next time it conks out I’ll file a claim. They don’t have to know I had it fixed before. And if the fix lasts until next season that’s even better…because it won’t LOOK like it was busted before I bought the hosue…lol
