• About three years ago I joined a rescue group. What started out as holding a leash for a couple of hours on Sundays turned into a whole new way of life for my family.

There have been many changes in my life over the past year, all of them for the better. One thing I did lose, though, was my rescue group.

I thought I had found a new rescue where I felt like I belonged. Unfortunately they didn't turn out to be what I thought they were. I'm walking away from dog rescue. I just can't do it any more. I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle and it hurts.

I've just started volunteering with rabbits. I can't walk away from animals all together, I feel like I have to do something. This way I can give myself a much needed break from the politics of rescue but still make a difference.

At first this blog was strictly about rescue. Then it became about my personal life. Now, finally, it's a little bit of both.

    How is he?

Rich went to the doctor yesterday for his blood clot. While he was there another, more serious condition was uncovered.

About four years ago Rich had back surgery. He had some kind of bulging disk problem and one of the symptoms of that was loss of sensation in his feet and pinched nerves. He’s now having the same loss of feeling in his right foot. Yesterday his regular doctor told him to go see his neurologist. He did that today. The neurologist sent him immediately to have an MRI. The MRI doesn’t look good. He’s been prescribed steriods to get rid of the inflamation causing the weakness in his foot. He’ll talk to his neurosurgeon tomorrow about the probabilty of another surgery.

He has an uncanny knack for figuring out ways to get out of helping me move, doesn’t he?

All kidding aside, he thinks he’ll be scheduled for surgery within the next couple of days. His doctors are afraid of his nerve damage becoming permanent. He told me his mom will be at the hospital for the surgery. I told him I would be there too. He said “You are not missing work for this.” If he thinks I’m going to work like nothing is happening he’s lost his fucking mind.

He seems to be in OK spirits. He’s cussing over his taxes right at this moment. (I don’t blame him, he’s getting screwed royally because his “wife” is uncooperative in the deduction department.)

I’m now going to watch Horatio. He’s my new hero.
