• About three years ago I joined a rescue group. What started out as holding a leash for a couple of hours on Sundays turned into a whole new way of life for my family.

There have been many changes in my life over the past year, all of them for the better. One thing I did lose, though, was my rescue group.

I thought I had found a new rescue where I felt like I belonged. Unfortunately they didn't turn out to be what I thought they were. I'm walking away from dog rescue. I just can't do it any more. I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle and it hurts.

I've just started volunteering with rabbits. I can't walk away from animals all together, I feel like I have to do something. This way I can give myself a much needed break from the politics of rescue but still make a difference.

At first this blog was strictly about rescue. Then it became about my personal life. Now, finally, it's a little bit of both.

I haven’t talked a lot about my business but now I kind of want to. I love all of my dogs. Even the little ones!

Martini and Mai Tai: Martini is a male black pug, Mai Tai is a female fawn pug. They’re both tiny! I walk them every day. Both of them are obsessed with treats. I swear they’re like little piranhas! And I don’t think they even chew them…I think they swallow them whole!

Taz and Lakota: These are two male Shih Tzus. If any dogs were going to make me want a small dog…these two are it. I walk them on Mondays.

Duke: He’s a male black great dane mix. I walk him Tuesday-Friday, but only until he’s old enough to go through the whole day without a potty break.

Penny: She’s a 12 year old doxie. She’s so sweet! She doesn’t make me want a doxie…but I do like her, even though I look like a dork walking her down the street when she has her blue coat on.

Cooper: He’s a 9 year old Bull Mastiff. I LOVE THIS DOG! I’ve only walked him three times but he knows me already and today he was so happy to see me! His parents own a townhouse and I have to park in the visitor’s section. He was waiting for me outside with his mom when I was walking towards them and when he saw me he started stamping his feet. His mom said “Go get her!” and he RAN down the street to me! It was so sweet!!! I walk him on Tuesdays and Thursdays but I’m hoping that they start adding days when the weather gets nice.

Ceasar: He’s a buff cocker spaniel. He is my absolute favorite! He’s just a smidge higher on my favorites list than Cooper. This dog makes me want a cocker in the worst way! I visit him on Saturday nights when his parents go out.

Mistee and Peppy: Mistee is a 13 yr. old scnauzer and Peppy is a 7 year old maltese mix. These girls are very easy. I pet sit for them every now and then.

Marley: She’s a chocolate lab mix who’s 6 years old. She’s a former search and rescue dog. She’s very well behaved and very mellow (unless she sees squirrels). I sit for her when her dad goes out of town.

Annie: She’s a yellow lab/pit mix and I LOVE HER! She’s so much like Jezzy in personality (except she listens better). I could totally own a dog like her. I petsit for her.

Reese: He’s a Shep/Collie mix who’s SO COOL! He’s a big old love bug. I let him out when his parents work late and I petsit for him when they go out of town.

Willie: He’s a a bichon that I’m scheduled to sit for over the holiday. He was afraid of me during the consultation. Hopefully he’ll decide he likes me when I visit him.

Cliff: I have no idea what mix he is but he’s totally a dog I’d bring home. He’s yellow with a cropped tail and a blocky head. He’s very well trained and he’s also a love bug. I sit for him when his parents go out of town.

Sasha: Cliff’s sister, she’s a white shep mix. She’s not as friendly. She’s not mean, she’s just more aloof than most dogs.

These are most of my clients. I didn’t count the cats because I don’t really have much to say about them. Most of them hide from me so I don’t really know them.

Now you guys will know who I’m talking about if I tell any pet care stories. :0)

I Should Just Become A Vet
    Filed in: Uncategorized

I’d save a lot of money that way.

A couple weeks ago Chuck and Brutus got into a fight. Chuck has recently decided that he doesn’t like Brutus. The result of the fight was a three inch long tear on Brutus’ side. This required a visit to the emergency vet.

Tonight we had to take Jezzy to the vet. When I got home tonight she was limping and as the night wore on she was unable to get up from a sitting position and barely able to walk. The vet isn’t sure but said Jezzy has either a soft tissue injury or a torn ACL. We’re hoping for the soft tissue injury. I don’t want to go through another TPLO.

    Merry Christmas.
